POSTERS The Armadillo World Headquarters (AWHQ), which was the original home of the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar, produced almost 600 different concert posters and promotional handbills, rivaling the graphic output generated by any concert facility of its type in the country. Original concert posters, distributed free at ticket outlets, record stores and on utility poles around town before the shows, are now collectibles. AWHQ's original resident artist, Jim Franklin, known for his posters, T-shirt designs, album covers, murals and large paintings, inspired the AWHQ name. His artwork had, since his 1968 poster for a Love-In at Wooldridge Park, included armadillos and helped popularize the Hill Country creature. The late Ken Featherston produced scores of AWHQ posters and did album covers for the Marshall Tucker Band and Starcrost. Other Hall of Fame artists include: Micael Priest, Guy Juke, Sam Yeates, Kerry Awn, Danny Garrett, Bil Narum, Dale Wilkins, Henry Gonzalez, Cliff Carter, John Shelton, Coy Featherston, Gary McIlhenny, John Rogers, Rick Turner and others. Many of these now well-established artists got their start at the 'Dillo. The spirit of the Armadillo World Headquarters lives on today in the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. To celebrate its heritage from the AWHQ, the 'Dillo Bazaar presents some of the concert posters from those years of the 1970's.
